Hiking, History and Hys-cream
Ice cream! – that’s what I meant!

We’ll meet at the clubhouse at 8:00 in the morning on Saturday, October 6th. We will drive for two hours to get to the Tonto Natural Bridge State Park. We will have two hours there to hike to the natural bridge and explore the trails in that area, then we will go to our lunch location – which is still to be determined. After lunch we will go visit the “oldest standing schoolhouse in Arizona” which now functions as a fully restored local history museum, complete with a late-19th century classroom exhibit. Then, after that, we will make our way to the Gingerbread House. No, it is not made of gingerbread – and it isn’t even a “house”. It is a fun place to get home-made ice cream (shipped from Hawaii) and look through their gift/souvenir shop. We will start back to Tempe around 4:00 and expect to be back home by 6:00.
Since it is a weekend, you can park your car on the street that runs along the front of the property the Clubhouse is part of. The address of the property is 205 East 15th Street, Tempe.
The cost is $15, cash please. (We don’t take credit or debit cards.) You can pay at a Friday night Bridges meeting, or email info@asubridges.club to make another plan to pay. Please sign up and pay ahead of time so we know how many cars we need. You will also need to fill out the liability release (at the bottom of this post) before we will reserve your space to go.
What to Bring:
- Your lunch. Make it ahead of time and bring it with you. We break for lunch after hiking.
- Snacks – in case you need an energy boost while hiking
- Water bottle
- Sunscreen, maybe a hat
- Comfortable walking shoes
- A light jacket – the weather will probably be sunny and in the 70’s – 80’s.
- $$$ for ice cream and souvenirs.
Important!
One of Bridges requirement for trips like this is to have you sign a liability release form. This is an electronic process. To start, click
here. You will enter your name and email address and click ‘next’. The liability release will appear on your screen. Click the box on the upper left to agree and click continue, then read and click ‘sign’ and finish. You will receive an email copy of the signed form.
